Attica Automation had a request from a major fastener manufacture to build
a machine that would press a crimp or dimple into the flats of the hex in either a double or triple combination. Plus the
machine needed to be able to do this with flanged or plain nuts.
(This is what we call a double or triple side lock) It is where punch pins
come in from the side and extrude the material distorting the threads in the center of the nut creating the locking feature.
Next the system had to have the capability of changing over to a top lock feature.
This is where the punch comes in and stamps a triangle on the top of the nut distorting the threads creating the top lock
feature.
The third request is it had to be hydraulically driven so that the tonnage
could be simply adjustable. We were chosen to take on the challenge that was cost competitive and met all the requirements.
After extensive engineering and design Attica Automation has made another extraordinary
accomplishment for the fastener industry.
